Roisin McMenamin

- Violoncello

Roisin grew up in County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland and began to play the 'cello in Primary School. Her rapid technical understanding of the instrument at such a young age was noticed and as a result, was encouraged to begin piano lessons.

Roisin progressed through local ensembles and Ceilidh Bands to become a member of the Western
Youth Orchestra which later lead to a place within the Western Sinfonia. She also played for a local Theatre Orchestra which was successful in accompanying various amateur shows and musicals.
Roisin completed a grade VIII certificate from the ABRSM in both 'cello and piano and afterwards achieved a Grade A in Advanced- Level Music.

Roisin left Northern Ireland at the age of eighteen to study an MA in Music and Celtic Civilisation at Glasgow University. Throughout her degree she was an active member of the Glasgow University Orchestra and a combination of Glasgow's vibrant musical culture and her own interest in Irish folk music lead her to explore various traditional instruments such as the accordian and tin whistle.

She completed her degree with an Honours certification in 2002 and established herself as an instrumental teacher alongside indulging herself in the diversities of traditional music performance.

Roisin currently plays a Bubenreuth Violonello by the German luthier Roderich Paesold (Circa 1970).
