Morag Johnston

- Violin

Growing up in Shetland, Morag was inspired by the rich musical tradition which gave her the enthusiasm to take up the violin at the age of seven. Throughout her first few years of playing, she participated in various orchestras and local bands including the Shetland Fiddlers Society at the age of nine. After receiving ABRSM grade VIII with Distinction and an A in Higher Music and Performance, Morag went on to win the Girvan Award for under 18's, toured in Germany and led the Stirling Regional Orchestra.

Morag began teaching violin when she assisted at the Queen Victoria School in Dunblane. This sparked
an interest in musical education and lead her to develop a busy teaching practice covering a range of ages and abilities based on the classical and folk music traditions.

In 2010, she completed a Joint Honours degree in English and Music from the University of Glasgow and completed a PGDE in Secondary Education from the University of Strathclyde in 2011. She currently works as a teacher for Stirlingshire Council.

Aside from the Caledonian Quartet, Morag performs with various Glasgow based bands and has supported acts such as Bodlum.

Morag currently plays a violin by the Shetland
luthier John Watson (1903).
